10 Curious Thoughts on Time Travel

10-curious-THOUGHTS-ON-time-travel2

Time travel is just fiction, right? Do not bet the farm because according to Einstein and other great minds of our near past and present, time travel may be just around the corner. Just two years ago, a scientist discovered that gravity is time. Gravitational expansion multiplied by an orbits velocity equals orbit time, therefore, it can be said that orbit distance, (AZ square) divided by orbit velocity (AZ) is the exact definition of time—math does not lie. Now that we know this, is time travel next? You be the judge. The following thoughts and facts about time travel are my top picks.

    • Wormholes

time-travel-wormhole

Simply stated, a wormhole is a shortcut through time and space. While we do not know of any, Einstein has done the math and the solutions to his field equations mathematically prove their existence is possible. It is also thought that some day we will be able to harness a wormhole (possibly create one) and travel through it. It is also believed that we can actually point them, or in other words, go exactly where we want to go in time and space.
We could build a tunnel from one point in space to another. If this is true, then we could also build a tunnel from one point in time to another. Thus, Einstein has proven that time travel, while still a long way off, is possible.

The problem that scientists doubt is solvable is whether we could survive the trip. We know that light can pass through them at 45-degree angles—the human body though is a whole other thing.

  • The Large Hadron Collider

time-travel-large-hadron-collider

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the largest energy particle accelerator in the world. It will answer (hopefully) the most fundamental questions of physics, helping us to understand some of the deeper laws of nature. One of these questions is the deep structure of space and time. This new giant atom masher can be the key to time travel.

Scientists are convinced that time travel is conceivable, perhaps not in our lifetime, but if and when the first time travel machine is built, these same scientist claim that the LHC is the perfect place for future travelers to appear. The atom masher creates all the right conditions and the perfect environment for a time travel receivership.

The theory behind LHC acting as a time machine is that the energy it generates is so focused that it may tear apart the fabric of space-time, creating a wormhole; a bridge to another space and time. This would be feasible, were it not for the fact that the particles are so small that the total energy of the collision is negligible. Even if it does create the wormhole, not even a fly will be able to pass through it.

  • Crawling Under the Sink

time-travel-under-sink

Not too long ago, a man came forward with a fascinating, if not crazy story of accidentally stumbling upon a time portal. Mr. Hakan Nordkvist claims he found a wormhole under his sink—yes, I will say that again, a wormhole under his kitchen sink.
He claims he came home from work and found water on his kitchen floor and realized the pipes under the sink were leaking. After retrieving his tools, he proceeded to crawl under the sink, but the pipe he needed to reach was in the very back. The further Hakan crawled, the larger and brighter the space became until he realized he could stand up. He found himself in a field. A man, about seventy years old was with him—to his shock and amazement, it was himself, just forty years older.

My first thought as I watched this video, was that the man was either crazy or he was lying, for whatever reason, about the whole thing. The twist to the story is that Hakan had his mobile cell phone with him and video recorded the incident.

Is it True? Hoax? I’ll leave that to you. The only question that is going through my mind now is: did he manage to fix the sink or not?

  • Ceasing to Exist in the Past

time-travel-grandfather

Imagine you lived in an era where time travels actually existed, and went back in time to meet your young self. Now let’s say an argument broke out between the two of you and you killed yourself (the other you, I mean). What would happen when you went forwards in time? Since you’ve died in the past, would all your history would be altered since at that moment in time, you died? Would anyone know who you where if you did make it back? Would you (the future you) die the moment you killed the other you?

Theoretically, if you killed yourself in the past, when you returned to the present you would have no identity, all the people you knew before would have attended your funeral, you would be dead to them.
These kinds of questions are not new. Science Fiction writer Rene’ Barjavel proposed a similar question with “The Grandfather Paradox” in which he asks what would happen if you went back in time and killed your grandfather, effectively preventing yourself from being born. If you were not born, you could not have traveled back to kill him.

  • Correcting a Past Mistake

time-travel-hit-by-bus

All of us, at some point in our lives, wish there was something we could go back and do again. We wish we could take back a hurtful word or not be late when someone was depending on us. Sometimes, we make mistakes that are so large; we wish we had not gotten out of bed at all.
If we had the ability to go back and change something, we would probably use it without thinking about the consequences of what would happen to other people. If everyone had one chance to correct a mistake, the outcome could be catastrophic.

Imagine you are walking down the street and see a man step in front of a bus. You are close enough to stop the man—to reach out and pull him back, but you hesitate. The man is killed right before your eyes and you feel terrible. For the rest of your life you wish you had reached out and grabbed his jacket. You know you can go back in time and change one mistake. Now you have to stop and ask yourself what would happen if you do. What would change and would it be worth it? Since you do not know the man, you go ahead and save him. Remember, you can only go back once. You go back, reach out at the last moment, and pull the man back onto the sidewalk. He is alive, and you go back in the present only to find, that he was a serial killer and went on to murder twenty people, among them was your Daughter. She no longer exists due to your decision, yet she was part of your life up until yesterday.
This is just one example—extreme yes—but it is possible. (Is it?) Maybe our mistakes are better left in the past.

  • The Multiverse Theory

time-travel-multiverse

If you did travel back in time, there would be two of you, presuming you only traveled as far as your own lifetime. Would the past you be the real you and would you then simply be a carbon copy of yourself, or a clone. The Multiverse theory says we can exist at the same time (two individuals who are the same person in the same universe¬) yet, the past events will take a course of their own in a separate Universe, preventing time travelers from altering the already written History in our Universe.
There are many theories and paradoxes whose only explanation is the multiverse theory (“the hypothetical set of multiple possible universes that together comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, and energy, as well as the physical laws and constants that describe them”). Think of it this way: if I went back in time and did the dirty deed, killed the past me, what would happen to the time I spent in this life up to that point when I returned. When I went back I may still exist, with nothing erased, but another universe may now exist where I would have been murdered. I would have never lived, but obviously, I did if I was able to go back and kill myself. Chicken and Egg anyone?

  • Are They Already Here?

time-travel-among-us

Does the absence of Space tourists prove that time travel is not possible, or are they already here? Many people have claimed to be time travelers, but the most famous is John Titor. It all started with posts on the internet, and soon Mr. Titor acquired a following. He claimed to be from the year 2036. In his post, he made many predictions for the near future, some quite vague, but others very specific. He described drastic changes to the United States, the environment and infrastructure had been ravished by nuclear war, the United States was split into five different regions, and most other world powers had been destroyed.
Beyond his predictions, that of 2011 have not materialized, he has certainly not proven to be from the future. The only other possibility would be our governments keeping something from us (would not be the first time).

The fact that we have not identified a time traveler could mean one of several things: First, it could mean that the ability to travel through time simply does not exist. Second, the ability to time travel exists but will never be discovered. Third, time travel is possible, has been discovered, but our future selves have better sense than to use it.

  • the MIT Time Traveler’s Convention

On May 7, 2005, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology—devoted to the advancement of knowledge and education of students in areas that contribute to or prosper in an environment of science and technology) hosted a time traveler’s convention.
Current residents and alumni came together to form the group known as PUTZ (verb: engage in inconsequential or unproductive activity). The event, front-page news in the New York Times, was scheduled for 10.45pm Eastern Time. It was hoped that by heavily advertising the get-together and openly inviting travelers from the future, one or more of them would not be able to resist. Unfortunately, no one showed. As the big moment came and went, the big brains were left holding the bag without so much as an RSVP. Did they consider that if future humankind thought it wise to reveal their selves before time travel is actually discovered, they would have done so by now? The fact of the matter is that there will probably be many wonderful and helpful discoveries on the road to time travel that can only be learned by taking the journey. If time travelers start popping up giving away their secrets, it could cost millions of lives that could be saved through the discovery process.

Another point to consider is that maybe, just maybe, when humankind solves the time, space problem—he also destroys himself. It could very well be that time travel destroyed the world. The real kicker though, is this—the time travelers may have shown up, but just did not let us know they were there.

  • UFOs-r-Us?

time-travel-cyborg

There are many reports of Unidentified Flying Objects, and encounters with aliens. These sightings can be traced all the way back to drawings on the walls of cave dwelling humans. These raise the question that everybody should be asking—if UFOs have been around since the dawn of man, why is it that we cannot prove their existence?
Could it be that the reason for our inability to prove the existence of UFOs be that we are the UFOs? Could humans from the future be visiting the past? This would explain a great many things. We would know how to mask or hide our existence. Being from the future would give these UFOs a unique insight in exactly what needed to be done to throw us off the track because they would know what we are going to do. Is our governments conspiring with them?

There are a plethora of unanswered questions to UFOs and what they might really be—and them being our future selves really is not that far fetched.

  • Chaplin Knew Better?

time-travel-phone-circus

There is a video on YouTube that may hold positive proof of time travel. Someone watching the Charlie Chaplin movie "The Circus" noticed that a woman walked across in the background holding what could only be a cell phone. The movie was made in 1928.

There is no way this could be right, so the youtuber slowed the video down and zoomed in on it. A full six out of the eight minutes shows an up close and personal view of what appears to be a very ugly woman or a man in drag holding a cell phone to his or her ear. I did some research and found that there are other videos that say the woman is merely holding a sound amplifier for the hard of hearing. A hearing aide model-made by Western Electric-that was about that size came out in 1925. Naturally relieved, i went back and watched the video again more closely. To my amazement, I realized that this person is not just holding the device to their ear; she (or he) is actually speaking into it.
Chewing gum is an explanation for the mouth movement as some people suggested, but upon looking closely I don’t think that is the correct answer unless the woman was a ruminant, like a cow. She could be yelling to the fast paced man ahead of her, but it appears the man just happened to be in the same place at the same time and has nothing to do with her. You really have to see this to believe it.

Once you decide in your mind that it is a cell phone, several questions emerge that need to be asked.

  • If this time traveler is speaking into a cell phone, does this not suggest there is more than one time traveler? Someone must be on the other end of the phone.
  • What is so important that this person deems it necessary to chance using their cell phone in public?
  • How could that cell phone work if there were no towers to relay the communications?
  • Finally, and perhaps the most important aspect of this video is this. The cell phone that he or she is holding is about the size and shape of the cell phones we use today, if not a little bit bigger. Does this indicate that he or she is using technology that exists right now? Does time travel exist right now?

Or you can just reach the conclusion that the woman was a fruitcake, holding a hearing device while walking and talking to herself. I've seen worse than that.
